Salgado Zenha Library

The Salgado Zenha library gathers the books and magazines that belonged to the personal library of Dr. Francisco Salgado Zenha. It was received by the School of Law of the University of Minho as a donation from Zenha’s familiy after his death. The library was inaugurated on December 16th, 1998 - in temporary installations- in a ceremony that counted with the presence of the President of the Republic, among others.  


The library covers vast and diverse areas of knowledge, speaking to the humanist profile and curious intellectualism of Dr. Salgado Zenha. Among the documents that integrated are rare works and many autographed by the authors.

Biografy

Francisco de Almeida Salgado Zenha was born in the city of Braga, May 2nd 1923. He pursued a degree in law at the University of Coimbra. In that university city he entered collective life, elected as president of the Academic Association of Coimbra (1944-1945) and assuming the leadership of the Via Latina newspaper, organ of that association. 

Dr. Salgado Zenha made his name, as a lawyer, defending political prisoners and also because of his political action. He was Minister of Justice from 1974-1975, and Minister of Finance from 1975-1976. In governance, he participated in key decisions, including the negotiation of the Concordata with the Holy See.

Francisco Salgado Zenha died November 1, 1993.​
